Get Into Intercessory Prayer

Hello everybody,

I am so encouraged from our study on prayer today. We studied Luke 11:1-13 "And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3Give us day by day our daily bread. 4And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. 5And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; 6For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? 7And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. 8I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. 9And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"

In these scriptures Jesus gave us a model for prayer and instructions on how to be persistent in prayer. Eldress Ollie spoke many words to encourage us in each aspect of the Lord's Prayer. What stood out the most was her comparison of verses 5-8 to our outreach for souls. "They are crying, they are knocking on the door. Help them and give them their portion.  Be open, ready, and hospitable in providing food and drink no matter what time of day or night. Give them their portion of the Word and show them how to receive the Holy Ghost (the anointing)."

Pastor Crowder exhorted us to "Pray until we intercede (intercessory prayer) and then wait on God. God will speak. When we receive no answer it is usually because we are begging with religious, long prayers. This is where many of us are right now and instead we need to get into intercessory prayer and watch what God will do! Wait on Him when you are in intercessory prayer, don't get up to soon and miss what He is saying. Listen to Him. This is where prophecy or a song will come forth."

Church, when Pastor lets us know where we are right now with prayer, it is important to act upon this word and correct our actions. I just did a word search on pray, prayer, supplication, and intercession. A wonderful example of intercessory prayer is found in Daniel 9. Go ahead and read it. By doing this word search, I was reminded of so many intercessors (and their prayers) such as Abraham, Moses, David, Hannah, Samuel, Soloman, Hezekiah, Elijah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, really all of the prophets, and Paul, just to name a few! Their prayers are written for an example to us. Our greatest Intercessor is Jesus. Not only is He our Intercessor, but because of His dying on the cross we can also intercede for others through Him by the Holy Ghost in us. How about His intercessory prayer for us in John 17 just before he was crucified. Read it and meditate on His Word. We are all called to be intercessors if we have the Holy Ghost in us. Here are more scriptures to encourage us in intercession:

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time." 1 Tim 2:1-6.

Acts 12:5 "Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him." Let's intercede fervently for those in prison.

Eph 6:17-18 "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"

Rom 8:26-27 "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God."

Rom 8:34 "Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."

Heb 7:25 "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

It profits to hear, read, and write about prayer but this is not actually praying! We must get into action. Let's all pray and intercede as God leads. Pray for the sick, pray for those going through trials, pray for those who have just lost loved ones, pray for our Pastor and Co Pastors, pray for all of the ministers and saints, pray for those who persecute us, pray for those in prison, pray for the Body of Christ, pray for our enemies, and pray for all men. Please get in there with the prayer and stay in the Holy of Holies interceding fervently and with perseverance until God speaks, remember to wait and listen, it is two way conversation. The more we pray like this the closer we grow in intimacy with God and the greater the results will be. We will be strong in Him and do exploits. Daniel 11:32b "But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits."

And don't forget to praise Him and thank Him. Wasn't it wonderful how the glorious praise broke out during the offering today, after Pastor spoke about how praise lifts the heaviness off of people. I loved how God moved on us. Co Pastor Lane had the song and sang it so powerfully with her whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, blessing all of us. I'm believing God to move on Pastor Crowder and Co Pastor Lane, His mighty power strengthening and healing their bodies. So always praise God, it lifts the heavy weights off of you and others and frees each.

One more scripture to encourage us before praying, Isaiah 61:1-3 "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified." We have much and many to intercede for, so into the Holy of Holies we go. I love you all very much.

Love, Sis. Jane
